Details

Arriving at the heart of the Battle of Normandy, you will first start with the visit of some of the major D-Day Landing sites and Memorials:

  • Point du Hoc, 90 feet high cliffs, where 225 Rangers landed on the morning of June 6, 1944.
  • Then you will continue your day of remembrance and stop at Colleville sur Mer to visit the American Cemetery, Overlooking Omaha Beach, which contains over 9,000 white crosses perfectly aligned on 170 acres.
  • You will then leave and stop at other famous WWII locations such as Arromanches and the vestiges of the artificial harbour (Mulberry's Bridges), Longues-sur-Mer and the German artillery battery, which gave the allied a pounding on the morning of 6th June. It is actually the only coastal battery to have kept its guns, giving an impressive picture of what an atlantic wall gun emplacement was really like.

Before returning to your Paris hotel, you will visit the Caen Peace Memorial, a place for reflecting on war in general and on what WWII meant, and still means, to the world. Tour includes admission to Caen Peace Memorial but not Lunch, the guide will give you some recommendations.

We did two tours with Conciergerie and both were fabulous! Fabrise was our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the tours and other facts along the way.

It is the ideal one day tour to Normandy. We were fetched us at a designated place hear our service apartment on time. We used a small van, together with another family. Our guide, Fabrice is very knowledgable about the history, explaining tidbits on the history of World War 2. We first went to Pointe du Hoc, to see the bunkers used by the Germans to defend the cliffs. You can see that the cliffs have a good command on both Omaha and Utah beaches. After the Pointe, we went to Colleville (american cementary) where you can appreciate the the respect they gave to those who died during the invasion. We had lunch at Arromache, where you can see remnants of the "Mullberry B" harbours. Last stop was the museum near Caen. The drive across the back streets of Normandy gives you a very scenic tour, hard to believe battles were foght here. All in all, the short trip was worth it. Fabrice also brought us back to our service apartment. Spending more time would have been ideal, but I do believe that short trips are better so you can spend more time in other areas.

This was the absolute highlight of my trip to France. Fabrice was our guide and he was phenomenal! Very kind, a wealth of knowledge of not just Normandy but on a wide variety of topics, and fantastic English (as well as many other languages). He made the history come alive. He gave us the time to really take in the sites so we could appreciate what happened there so many years before us. Though we booked a group tour, we were lucky enough to be the only 2 people for the day (we were there in the November off season) so it was like getting a tour by a friend. The departure from Paris is early; however, it is quite clear why you need to leave that early to make it through Paris traffic. And the drive through the country is lovely, especially as the sun rises - it's stunning and you realize why so many painters chose to live there. I cannot say enough good things about this tour and our guide. I recommend this to every one I talk to about my trip.
