Lisbon, the Doorway to Atlantic Adventures
A vacation to Lisbon, Portugal is a trip to a modern metropolitan city that can trace its root back to the Neolithic era. Lisbon is the oldest city in Western Europe and serves as Portugal’s capital
. Lisbon sits at the mouth of the Tagus River, and it enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with temperatures rarely below freezing at any time.
If you are someone who enjoys a day at the beach, Lisbon has some wonderful beaches for you to explore. The beach areas are on four separate coastlines. Each coast has a distinctive feel.
• The Costa da Caparica
Coastline offers you 15km of immaculate gilded sandy beaches; located on the Setubal Peninsular’s west side. This area is popular with tourists and is a great place to surf, soak up the sun, or enjoy a drink at one of the area’s many fashionable bars.
• The Serra de Sintra
Coastline looks directly out to the Atlantic Ocean and is a wonderfully undeveloped area; protected by the Serra de Sintra National Park. The coastline has limited tourist facilities and no public transportation system.
• The Estoril-Cascais
Coastline is located to the west of Lisbon and is a perfect area for family friendly beaches. While this location does become crowded especially during weekends in July and August, it is a perfect place to enjoy a day.
• Serra da Arrábida
Coastline is on the southern side of the Setubal Peninsular and is also the farthest from Lisbon. It is widely considered one of the finest beach areas that you can visit. Must see landmarks in Lisbon
